Madras Talkies

Here is the deal.. Champions Trophy hockey, Chennai 2005 will be aired in DD along with the FIH official broadcaster (for India) TEN Sports.

This is a really good news for Hockey fans like me how can’t got to Major Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore, Chennai. Also CAS in Chennai made sure that I can’t get to watch Pay channels.

All India featuring matches will start at 6:30 PM, so maybe I can catch most of the matches live on DD. Yeah we have bare the Hindi Commentary, but we can’t ask for a cell phone and a free connection with it.

Second Champions Trophy in Chennai

Chennai’s Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium was the venue for the 1996 competition as well. The only Venue in India to host the tournament for two times. India then had ended up in fourth spot.

This time around, the organisers have really done a good, they have re-laid synthetic turf (at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore) ,floodlights put up at a cost of Rs two crore which is beneficial to both the players and the fans as it’s hot and humid during the day. The general infrastructure and facility at the stadium for both the players and fans have been revamped.

With the storm brewing ahead, hope Cyclone Fanoos don’t becomes the Man of the Match like how Cyclone Baaz was the Man of the Match for the India-Sri Lanka tie.

With less than 48 hours to go for India to take on the defending champions Spain, I am all excited to watch the match…on Television!

Well, there won’t be result for the first test Between India and Sri Lanka. But no regrets, we do have the Man Of The Match! No marks for guessing.. it’s our Cyclone Baaz which is playing havoc in Tamil Nadu..

First of all, it was supposed to hit as a cyclone, but it did bring heavy rain and throwed life out of gear in Tamil Nadu and now in Chennai.

3rd Day also washed out:

Three days of no action. Called off without a single ball being bowled.. it’s very disappointing today being a Sunday as well. The rain has stopped now, but the damage was done last evening when there was heavy rain agian and even I was caught in the rain.

It must be hard on the players.. they must have come prepared mentally for the match and now all the energy might have drained.. Now it’s no use staying in Chennai in case the day is called off tomorrow as well. Atleast the cricketers can have a good practice at kotla.

Doordarshan did not even show the fourth umpire studio talk pre show with Pune marathon dominating the slot.

Dramatic rescue:
The coast guard yesterday rescued five people who was trapped and here is the picture of that dramatic rescue..

Many parts of Chennai flooded:

There was 24cms of rain for the past 24 hours and again the reservoirs, lakes and other water bodies (including roads!) were flooded. The roads are battered, and the water mixes with the sewage at some areas. Many apartments at velachery was flooded with water and people living in the ground floor had to be moved to safer places. Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has announced “relief” for the affected people irrespective of the ration cards they hold.

Luckily it was all good and fine in my area and we were fortunate to be spared from all the hardships that other people faced. There was no power cuts, no water logging, no shortage of supplies and hope it continues in the same way for the rest of the monsoon season.

  • Yeah, be prepared to face another round of heavy rainfall. The Met. department here at Chennai have issued cyclone warning and heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours.

Here is the Cyclone warning issued by them:

Yesterday’s depression over Southeast Bay moved westwards and intensified into a cyclonic storm lies centred at 0830hours IST of 29th November at about 800 Kilometers East Southeast of Chennai. It is likely to intensify further and move in a West Northwesterly direction towards North Tamilnadu – South Andhra coast.

India Vs Sri Lanka Test Match from Dec. 2
The Test match against Sri Lanka starts on Dec, 2. A low pressure is formed in the Bay of Bengal, 700 Kms from Chennai and it might rain from tomorrow evening.

TNCA was to sell the season tickets from 27th Nov. (Sunday), then they postponed to 29th and now they postponed to 30th. I don’t think anyone will be interested in the season tickets as it might rain for the next 48 hours. Also the clause:”No refund will be made under any circumstances” warns the juntas.

Lets hope that we have a game at Chennai without the Rain being the Man of the match!

    Things can’t go any worse!
There was no rain for the past two days here in Chennai and TN, and now might face a heavy downpour. Already the roads are battered, drainage water mixing with rain water, water logging, rail tracks and services affected, bridges “broken”, accidents and over 160+ rain related deaths et al and atleast things can’t go any worse..at least we are mentally prepared this time around.
